Shoe Report Friday: Pump, Pump, Pump It Up!

There is no mistaking that a pair of pumps can instantly transform any outfit and add just the right amount of pizazz. With that being said, there is somewhat of an art to choosing and buying the right pump. I have come to realize that buying my pumps in a half size (and sometimes even a whole size) smaller will afford me comfort without the slippage that is common when wearing a pair of poorly selected shoes. Below are a few basic albeit helpful hints to keep in mind while shoe shopping.

  • Know your size Often times your feet can be two different sizes. Take the time to measure them just to be sure. Have a sales rep do it in-store for you if you are not comfortable doing it yourself.
  • Realize that different brands may fit differently Since different manufacturer's measurements may not match be aware of this fact. Also, know your size in European sizes. You can view a conversion chart here.
  • If possible shoe shop at the end of the day Your feet may change sizes or even swell by the end of the day. Try shoes on after walking around and you’ll get a picture of your true size.
  • Sashay up and down the aisle in those shoes This should be a no brainer. Do a couple laps around the shoe area before you even think about buying! Remember to shop at stores that have a reasonable return policy – most shoes will be comfortable at first, but maybe not after an hour!
Happy shoe shopping!
