Ralph Lauren Fall 2010 |
Velvet is a timeless fabric with a soft and silky texture (there I go with the fabrics again...lol). Velvet once only used in royalty has now stuck its head out again through the creative talents of some of our most favorite designers. Let the evolution begin!!!!! It takes a true sense of courage to wear velvet. It has not always had the best reputation over the fashion years. People see velvet and immediately thing, "old lady". But, no more. Velvet is now saturated with glam and sophistication. It is extremely versatile and is now one of the most sought after textiles in the industry.

If you are not all that stylish or fail to possess that fashionista like quality, there are ways to wear velvet without looking....um.....matronly or like Elizabethan age royalty. LOL.
How to wear velvet:
1. Wear only one velvet item at a time. NEVER wear more than one at any given
time. Unless, you want to be talked about....badly.
2. Because velvet is already going to be the outfit & the accessories, you really
don't need to accessorize. But, if you do...wear dainty items or one jeweled
item. Anything else will make you look like a haute blazing royal mess.
3. I shouldn't even have to say it, but velvet is best worn in the Fall and Winter
months.
These are the basics. If you put it on and you you look in the mirror and question the outfit, chances are something needs a lil tweeking. LOL.

Velvet is no longer just being used for prom dresses and formal wear. It has taken a turn and for the better. I personally have 3-4 items in my style catalog. My favorite is a short tailored coat/jacket. I love to layer the coat with a very flowy scarf that can be wrapped around the neck a few times. I often pair the velvet jacket with a pair of skinny jeans and really cute booties that have hardware on them. See, not royal huh? Don't go trying to steal my look, be original. LOL.

Keep it clean and neat. Let the velvet wear it self. You don't need to help it stand out as it is a show stopper on it own. The above designers have created some awesome pieces to get you started in you quest to add a little velvet into your life. Still not sure? Well check out the two links that I have left below and get a feel of how you want to see YOU in the new and improved designer world of VELVET.
